Inspired by her work and the influence of Vatican II, Sister Carol spent many years inspiring renewal in lay groups and was personally deeply fulfilled by it. Later in life, she developed a gift for watercolor, producing many lovely pictures, especially landscapes, most accompanied by her verses. We remember and give thanks for Carol's generous spirit among us.
Sister Irene Marie Hughes was educated by SSNDs and found them "joyful and caring.” After her novitiate year, she was sent to Puerto Rico and fell in love with the island, spending 19 years there. Eventually, teaching ESL classes at Caroline House in Bridgeport, she wrote “I found this to the perfect place at this time in my life.” She moved to The Watermark in 2021. We remember and give thanks for Irene 's generous spirit among us.
Sister Mary Margaret was a dedicated teacher, helping students in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago through the years. As a leader of SSND Associates at St Columba she assisted many. Her life of service continued in retirement at Marian Village in Homer Glen, Illinois. May Mary Margaret rest in peace.
In death, we say our ultimate human yes to God. Trusting in God’s power to bring us to the fullness of life, we conclude our earthly life with an act of worship: in the action of death we proclaim God as God, and ourselves as God’s creatures. We are called by God and sent by the community; we go in joy!
